SKIP THIS PART IF YOU ARE SHORT ON TIME... it's kinda boring and lame.
(I just needed to vent.)
I took Porter to the doctor a week or so ago, to check on that darn bump by his eye. OUR doctor, Dr. Bowman (whom we love), told us to see his partner, Dr Treft (whom we DON'T love) about this little tumor. Dr T had told Dr B that he could remove the lump without any further imaging... you know x-rays, MRIs, CAT scans, etc. We were pretty excited and I went to the appointment thinking that I was going to make a surgery appointment. (See, we think the bump is bigger and we just want it GONE so we can go on with our lives already.) I went to the appointment and told him we'd like surgery. He got his camera out and started taking pictures of the lump and then told us to come back in 3 months to see if it had grown! Was he even LISTENING TO ME?! (He gave me some BS story about how the insurance won't pay for surgery if there's no PROOF it has grown... blah blah. I WORKED for a Doctor and I KNOW that if a Physician SAYS he needs surgery, then that's all the proof they need.) So I was pretty upset with him... I felt like he didn't BELIEVE me that it was growing and that I was an OVER-REACTING mom. Whatever. After a few minutes, I think he could tell I was unhappy and he finally said that if I wanted surgery, we'd have to get an MRI. AFTER ALL THAT?! I wish we had just kept Dr. B!!!
THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO START IF YOU SKIPPED THE FIRST PART...
Anyway, Dr. T told us to go home and wait for a call from him... he was going to call Primary Children's Hospital to get an MRI scheduled. (they have to sedate little kids... and heck, now that I've SEEN that big scary machine, they would probably have to sedate ME too!!) So a phone call from him and about 3 from Primary Children's later, we got set up for the MRI.
It happened Thursday and here's how the day went...
I got up early to make breakfast... Porter was not supposed to EAT after 8 am, so I got up at 6:30 to make sure I could stuff him full. He and Jack had waffles in bed...they were so excited by this. I took pictures because no one would believe me that I made breakfast...
and IN BED?!... Forget about it. (breakfast is just NOT my thing.)

Then at 8, I barred off the kitchen and we took off. I wanted to be NOT HOME... it's easier not to eat when you're not home. We went to some stores and hung out at the mall and just drove around. Then about 11:30, we went home so that Jack could have lunch before preschool. We were so sneaky... we put Porter's shows on in my room and Jack watched with him on my bed while I made his lunch. Then I came in and watched with Porter while Jack went to the kitchen and ate. Then Spence came home and watched with him while I had lunch. Porter didn't know there was any food consuming going on... or he would have had a freak out. For this stealthiness, I was pretty proud. (Good, Al, you tricked a 2 year old!)
Then about 1:30 pm, Spence took Porter down to the hospital. I stayed behind to go to Jack's preschool performance. (why does everything happen on ONE day?!) After the show, I left Jack with Mimi and Ed and took off down to Primary Children's. They put Porter IN the MRI right as I was leaving and I got there just as they were pulling him out. So, he was in there for 35-45 minutes. (I had no idea that it takes so long! No wonder they had to put him under.) Oh, I hated seeing his limp little body in that nurse's arms... it tugged at my heart. He slept for another 90 minutes while Spence and I watched and waited.
When he finally woke, he was pretty out of it.

He spoke of Puppy Power and joked about having no pants on. He kept sitting up and bonking his head on the metal bars around his bed... then he'd laugh. It was all pretty silly. Spence kept saying, "he's a happy drunk." The nurses brought him a Coke and, after about 30 minutes, we took him home.
What a day! I'm a little relieved that it went so smoothly. And just think... we are that much closer to having this thing taken care of.
