Meet Horrace...

I was going through my pictures today and I came across one that has a great story behind it.
I'd like to share it...

So I was on the phone with my friend, Nicole, when my sister came over... she needed to get something out of the garage. Since I am such a great multi-tasker I took my phone conversation outside to the little garage pin pad. I typed in the code and the garage door started to rise. Then I noticed something hanging from the corner of the garage door... it was squirming and looping around itself as it rose into the air. I screamed, "Snake!!!!! FLYING SNAKE!!!" and ran into the house to get my camera... to document it for the blog! (Poor Nicole was still on the phone. She said, "I can hear you on the phone AND outside." Anyway, I told her I'd call her back.) When I got to the snake, camera in hand, it had already turned into a worm.

Ok, seriously... when a worm is a FOOT LONG, it is no longer a worm...

it has crossed into the snake family.

Quote of the week...

This weekend we were telling Jack about my friend's son... Wyatt.
When we asked Jack if he could say "Wyatt" he said... I have no idea what this kid is talking about half the time.

Today is Spencer and my 7 year anniversary! Each year, my memories of that day get less and less... sad to say. THAT'S WHY WE TAKE PICTURES! I do have a few memories, though, and I think I should write them THIS year. Who knows, by year 8 they may have faded, too.

I remember I got my eyebrows waxed 3 days before the wedding. The lady BURNED me and I had 2 huge red lines on my face. Spencer affectionately nick-named me 'Stripe' . Luckily those ugly stripes scabbed up and fell off the MORNING OF the wedding. Spence still calls me 'Stripe' every now and again.

I remember I was trying to do my hair when Spencer arrived at our house... about 2 hours before he was supposed to! (Cute, huh?) He just sat downstairs in his suit and waited for me to get ready.

I remember driving 4 hours to Manti in the white Explorer with Spencer. I painted my nails while we listened to music and talked and laughed.

I remember how calm and peaceful and beautiful the Temple was. We were the 2nd couple (out of 2!) to get married that day, so we had a lot of attention. It was fun. I remember trying to not step on my white dress as we hiked up (what seemed like) 38,000 steps. Spence held my hand the whole time.

I remember the whole picture-time after the ceremony. It was FREEZING and really windy, but it was fun. My cute mom was there to help us... mostly me. She made sure my lipstick wasn't on my teeth and she made sure my hair didn't have fly-aways... important stuff like that. Cute Penny.

I remember after pictures, Spence and I drove home, but only after we stopped at Subway. I had a tuna sandwich and chips... delicious.

I remember the reception pretty clearly.... we have a lot of it on video! The usual... sign in book, quilts made by friends and family, tableware display, flowers, pictures, music, delicious food. (stuffed mushrooms were a HIT!) Just a normal Mormon reception. I remember having little disposable cameras on each table... people had a lot of fun with those.

I remember stopping the line to cut the cake and in our hurry to get back to the line, Spence tripped on my huge dress. He didn't fall all the way down, but it was definately noticeable. We had a good laugh.

After the line died down, we had an impromptu dance. I danced with my sweet grandpa, Par. He twirled me around to the music of Frank Sinatra... it was such a special moment to me. I love my grandpa so much! I also danced with my cute dad who made sure his little girl had a wonderful day... that's another dance I'll never forget. I love my dad very much, too.
I remember driving away in our (now decorated with mustard and balloons and oreos and shaving cream) white explorer. I remeber looking back at my family and seeing them all outside waving and cheering. Spence and I are so lucky to have such loving families!
What a perfect wedding day! Every girl's dream.

I'm so glad it was SPENCE that I got to marry that day. I am the LUCKIEST!! He is the most loving, wonderful husband and he treats me like gold! I am still sooooo crazy about him.
I love you so so so much, Spencer... and I always will.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Sweet-heart!

Funny boy...

Porter made up a new joke. He says it at least 21 times a day in his cute baby accent.
Here it is, translated into adult... Then he giggles and giggles and giggles. It's pretty adorable.

Quote of the week...

We were at Target the other day and Jack found a DVD of a show on Nick Jr.
He ran over to it, picked it up and said this to me... I think we watch WAY too much TV!

Quote of the week...

When we were driving on an overpass Jack blurted out... Didn't know it meant that much to him. Glad you enjoyed that, Jack.
PS. People have asked me if Jack KNOWS I do the quote of the week... NO, he doesn't.

Go UTES!

Spence was so excited... he took Jack to his first U of U football game yesterday. You've got to teach them early... there are a lot of bad BYU influences in this neighborhood. We don't want our children to be misled by those fools. I can just hear them... "You'll be cool if you become a BYU fan." or "Try BYU... one time won't kill you." We want our children to be strong in their beliefs and not be afraid to punch any cougar that tells them to wear braided belts or Burkenstock shoes or listen to Brian Shupe. I always tell my boys "Lameness never was happiness."
Our kids WILL love the U. It has brought Spencer and me so much happiness through the years... we want the same for our kids. We sing "I am a Utah Man" as a lullaby to our boys each night and we make them scream "GO UTES" 87 times before we feed them.
Some people think we're crazy... I think we're just loving, concerned parents who want thier kids to know the TRUTH and to believe in what is right.
We never said being a U fan would be easy... we only said it would be worth it!
Here are pictures of them before the game...NOT!
I probably couldn't have married a face painter... not that there's anything wrong with that. Here is their real picture... I love my little U of U fans.

PS. I don't really hate BYU... well, yah I do.
